What is pea protein?

Pea protein is a type of food and comes from both yellow and green peas. Pea protein also comes from the group of legumes, where you also find beans, chickpeas, soybeans and lentils. The peas are dried and then pressed into a powder that is then called pea protein and has between 70-90% protein. It is a protein-rich source and is used today as a dietary supplement. "Nine of the twenty amino acids that protein is made up of are essential. This means that the body cannot produce them on its own, and we therefore need to regularly inge these nine amino acids through food."
